Handicap International UK is urging the public to show solidarity with victims of cluster bombs in Southern Lebanon and across the world by supporting the campaign to Ban Cluster Bombs.

The Pyramid of Shoes is a unique occasion for people of all ages to learn more about cluster bombs and their impact and to take part in disability awareness-raising activities.

The public will have the chance to sign the petition calling for an international ban on the use, production and stockpiling of cluster bombs. The United Kingdom is currently producing, stockpiling and trading cluster bombs and has used them in recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to the United Nations, it could take several years to clear the 100,000 cluster bomblets that failed to explode in Southern Lebanon in the recent conflict. That’s approximately 100,000 potential victims, in a country with 3.8 million people.

What's on offer on the day?

Professional bomb clearance experts will be conducting mine clearance demonstrations and show the extraordinary skills and commitment this work requires on a daily basis.
An interactive exhibition will help the public fully understand the danger cluster bombs represent.
Physiotherapists and rehabilitation experts will explain their work with amputees.
Children’s activities and educational games will take place around the Pyramid of Shoes
Entertainment from:
- The G's (folktopia)
- The Spider’s Web Storytellers
- Malinke Rhythm (presented by Live Music Now!). This group explores the music of West Africa. Baba Kone, master dummer from Burkina Faso is the inspiring leader of this vibrant instrumental group which consists of the following instruments: Jembe, Balafon, Kora, Jum Jum, Kpalogo, Zalefon, dancer and acrobat. Baba plays jembe, balafon, and zalefon. Adei sings and dances. Ayitey plays the drum and dances and Jacob plays the drum.
What can YOU do?

Bring a pair of shoes to add to the giant Pyramid of Shoes, showing their solidarity with the victims. All these shoes symbolise the thousands of limbs and lives lost to unexploded munitions such as landmines and cluster bombs.
